Cat Adoption Application & Questionaire
Adopting a cat is like adopting a child....well, that's how we view it. So you know where we stand and how serious we take this. It's a living being that you are bringing into your family and home. We expect a lot from you and vice versa. Everyone must fill in our application/questionaire.
PLEASE READ If you are over the age of 60:
At SOS, we carefully consider the long-term wellbeing of every cat we place, especially our youngest kittens, who can live 15–20 years. Because of this, we have a policy that limits kitten adoptions to individuals under 60, particularly when there isn’t a co-adopter over the age of 21 who can legally and practically assume long-term responsibility. This policy is not based on age bias, but on hard-earned experience—we’ve sadly seen many kittens returned as circumstances change over time, and we must prioritize lifelong stability for our rescues. We understand this may be disappointing, and we know it can feel personal—but it is a policy we apply consistently and is in place to protect both the adopters and the animals in our care. We’d love to match you with one of our wonderful adult cats, who are often overlooked but make incredible companions. If a kitten is truly your only interest, we understand if our rescue isn’t the right fit for you.
Here are the steps of our process:
1. Application Submitted.
2. You will receive an email asking to help us with your reference checks that will include friends/colleague, vet (if applicable), & landlord (if applicable).
3. Once you have submitted all the documentation, then our team has everything they need to finish with your application.
4. You will receive an introductory text for an interview.
5. If you are approved, then we will begin the matching of cats.
6. Before a cat goes home, you must read & sign an Adoption Manual, a Contract and the cat must be paid in full.
Things you will need for the application:
Photo ID
Proof of Address
Vet Records (if applicable)
Reference Checks - 2 (friend & colleague - NO FAMILY MEMBER)
Landlord's Information (if applicable)
EVERY APPLICATION HAS A CO-ADOPTER
(Why? We get calls/emails with cats that have been found, abandoned, etc & we want to know that there is someone who has your cats back if something happens.)

Tips
-
Two references are needed:
-
References CAN NOT be people related by blood or marriage
-
Applications will not be processed without appropriate references.
-
-
To get your application moving FASTER: If you are wanting an emotional support kitty (SOS Comfort Kitty) and have a recommendation by a doctor or psychologist, please make sure that you upload your ESA form. This will move you to the top of all applicants.
-
If you are adopting an OLDER CAT, please note this in the online form when asked which cats you prefer. This will get you moved up. Note: if you change your mind, then we will place you back in the normal order & we consider this SNEAKY.
-
Adopting two will move you faster. If you are interested in more than one cat/kitten, please make sure you list them in and answer the question in the online form.
-
If you are having problems with the application, please do a quick refresh but you can also find us on Facebook and send us a message there.
-
Review our adoption manual. You will receive a copy but we make it available here on the site for you review in advance.
